Cincinnati, OH - Saturday, March 17th kicked off the 3rd season for United Soccer League’s FC Cincinnati with a 1-0 victory against Charleston Battery. FC Cincinnati has seen great success since inception in 2016 including breaking attendance records, playoff appearances in each season and they are currently a finalist to become an MLS expansion team.
FC Cincinnati plays all home games at Nippert Stadium, home of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats football team. Nippert Stadium has gone above and beyond to welcome FC Cincinnati. In 2016, prior to FC’s inaugural season, Nippert Stadium replaced its beautifully branded football synthetic turf surface manufactured by Turf Nation with an all green synthetic turf surface, also manufactured by Turf Nation.
Nippert Stadium’s all green surface allows for a blank canvas to paint soccer or football lines, depending on which team is playing. Not wanting to forgo their bold, vibrant end zones, the Bearcats selected a R.A.P. (Removable Active Panel) system manufactured by Turf Nation for their end zones and mid-field logo. While in football mode, their end zones and mid-field logo are in place. While in soccer mode, those end zones and mid field panel are replaced with all green inserts. This solution has allowed both teams to have a field suitable for professional play for both sports.
In 2017, Nippert Stadium underwent a renovation that moved the field wall back to increase the size of the field to be FIFA regulation size. As a result, Turf Nation provided additional turf to cover the expansion and ensure the surface was consistent from a performance, safety and aesthetic perspective.
April 7th will be the first home game of the season for FC Cincinnati. Turf Nation wishes them a successful 2018 season!!
