Applied Surfacing Technology Proud to Partner with Turf Nation, Manufacturer of Pro Bowl Surface at Aloha Stadium

undefinedNoticeably absent from this Sunday’s Pro Bowl game will not only be players from the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons as they prepare for Super Bowl LI in two weeks, but the beautiful scenery players, coaches and fans are accustomed to seeing virtually every year. This year, the game is being played in Orlando instead of the venue most associated with the NFL All-Star game, Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. Since 1980, the Pro Bowl had been played at Aloha Stadium all but three times prior to the game being moved to Camping World Stadium this year.

undefinedDuring its lifespan, Aloha Stadium has gone through a series of renovations, including replacement of its playing surface. For the previous two Pro Bowls at Aloha Stadium, Applied Surfacing Technology (AST), Hawaii’s most experienced installer of synthetic turf fields, installed a professional-grade artificial turf system from Turf Nation. AST — which also worked with Turf Nation on the field for John Kauinana Stadium at Mililani High School (pictured, left), Kamehameha Schools Maui, McKinley High School in Honolulu, and Kaneohe Marine Corps Base — is proud to continue offering turf systems manufactured by Turf Nation in Hawaii as well as the South Pacific region.

“The quality and consistency of the Turf Nation turf is fantastic,” said AST’s Denny Sadowski. “And their logo work, nobody does it better. The best logo we’ve ever had was one they completed recently for McKinley High School.”

Turf Nation stadium surfaces are manufactured using the highest grade C8 polyethylene fiber, which helps ensure superior performance and durability. All components of a Turf Nation synthetic turf system are manufactured in the U.S., and each surface is custom-designed to a

team’s or school’s specific needs. All synthetic turf surfaces are field-tested by an independent laboratory prior to shipping.

undefined“We are thrilled to continue our long-lasting relationship with Denny and the great folks at AST,” said Turf Nation President Sid Nicholls. “Their professionalism and installation expertise is among the best in the nation; they truly are everything you could hope for in a partner.”

Sadowski echoed Nicholls’ sediment. “Sid is an honest, professional business man. If you need something turned out quick, he’ll figure out a way to do it for you. And the people he has working for him, they are golden. They are so customer service oriented, it’s a treat to work with them.”

Turf Nation manufactures high-quality synthetic turf fields for all levels, including the professional level where 14 NFL teams practice and/or play on a surface manufactured by Turf Nation. This includes MetLife Stadium (New York Giants, New York Jets), Mercedes-Benz Superdome (New Orleans Saints), Paul Brown Stadium (Cincinnati Bengals), U.S. Bank Stadium (Minnesota Vikings) as well as the home to Super Bowl LI, NRG Stadium (Houston Texans). What It Means to Me to Manufacture the Turf for the Super Bowl

By Sid Nicholls, President, Turf Nation

undefinedIn a few weeks, the biggest single-day sporting event in America — the Super Bowl — will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston. More than 70,000 people will be in attendance and more than 100 million people worldwide will watch the Super Bowl that, for the third time in the last five years, will be played on synthetic turf manufactured by Turf Nation.

Having worked in the synthetic turf industry for four decades, I have been involved with some of the biggest sporting events in history, but there’s something very special to all of us at Turf Nation about the Super Bowl. Prior to this year, we also manufactured the playing surface for the 2013 and 2014 Super Bowls, and despite this being our third Super Bowl field, our excitement remains really high. I know how hard the Turf Nation team worked to create a surface worthy of such a historic moment in sports, and the feedback on the surface has been extremely gratifying. When the field was installed last August, Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien was quoted by NBC Sports as saying, “I think that it’s a really nice surface. I know our players really like it.” It was even more gratifying watching the Texans go on to win the AFC South title after going a franchise-best 7-1 at home.

As a turf manufacturer, our top priority is always to provide a team or school with an artificial turf surface that helps players perform their best while giving parents, fans, coaches, administrators and athletes alike peace of mind that those players are competing on a safe surface. While we at Turf Nation take tremendous pride in the Super Bowl recognition we’ve been receiving, as well as the 22 total NFL surfaces we have manufactured, what is even more meaningful to me is that we put this same level of care into every synthetic turf surface we manufacture, be it professional, collegiate, high school or a parks and rec surface.

Turf Nation vice president and 14-year turf industry veteran Stacey Hewitt put it best, “Every surface we manufacture matters equally to us. We understand how much trust is being placed in us to create a high-quality playing surface that is second to none, and that’s what we provide, day in and day out.”

On February 5, I hope everyone enjoys Super Bowl 51 as a new team will be crowned NFL champions and hoist that prestigious Lombardi Trophy. Like many around the world, I will be watching closely with many of the hard-working men and women at Turf Nation that helped play a role in this special moment, and we look forward to helping create more special moments for athletes of all ages in the future as well.
